King’s College London’s Actions for GDA 6

For 4 years now, the King’s Legal Clinic has been raising awareness regarding the impact of our actions on the global north and focusing on how climate change impacts communities who live around the Sundarbans river delta in West Bengal. These communities have been forced to leave the delta due to the extreme weather events, salinated water, and the pressure on the environment.

Meanwhile in the UK, pressure on our rivers is preventing the migration of fish and killing the wildlife which lives in and around them.

This year, King’s Legal Clinic will be hosting a ‘Rivers Hackathon' as part of the Global Day of Action for Climate Justice. During this event, lawyers, artists, campaigners, and students will exchange ideas and experience on the themes discussed. Participants will then discuss and develop strategies to tackle the impacts of climate change on their communities and their rivers.

Alongside the Global Day of Action, the event is also part of a Lost and Found: Stories of sanctuary and belonging. This is a programme at KCL that explores themes of refuge, resilience, and the search for safety in a world facing significant social, political, and environmental challenges.

This eclectic programme of art, film, ideas and discussions reflects King’s status as a University of Sanctuary. It has been inspired and informed by King’s life-changing research and co-created with artists and communities from across London and beyond.
